I’ll start by outlining the basics of these frameworks and highlighting the challenges businesses face in implementing them.

As the creator and maintainer of the terraform-aws-modules projects, I’ll be excited to share how using these open-source Terraform AWS modules can streamline the compliance process. I’ll walk you through real-life examples showing how such solutions significantly reduce the effort and time required for compliance.

The emergence of microservices made us rethink how we built business applications. It led us to the migration of complex monolith applications to countless microservices. The adoption of the cloud and the suitability of container services helped revolutionize microservices.

Amidst this adoration for microservices came serverless, the next evolution of the cloud. Serverless brought deeper granularity with its technology offering. It tested our thinking, shifted our minds, and questioned the way we’ve been building microservices. The agility of event-driven computing and the granularity of serverless allow us to break traditional application development into multiple pieces.

Traditionally, software engineers leverage AI primarily for writing code or executing routine tasks. In this session, we present a different approach: employing AI as a dynamic user interface for an Internal Developer Platform (IDP). Rather than forcing developers to interact directly with complex YAML manifests or platform-specific commands, we demonstrate how an AI-driven interface can seamlessly handle the creation, observation, troubleshooting, and deletion of platform services.

Our objective is not to answer generic questions or provide general Kubernetes tutorials, but rather to enable developers to effortlessly consume and manage services specifically provided by the platform without detailed knowledge of underlying implementations. Using an Internal Developer Platform built with Crossplane (though the approach applies broadly to any API-driven infrastructure) we explore how AI can dynamically discover available services, prompt users through wizard-like interactions, and autonomously manage the lifecycle of platform resources.

Orbit, the backbone of BMW’s Connected Drive, is a dynamic ecosystem with over 360 EKS clusters supporting more than 22 million connected vehicles. As part of our continuous improvement, Orbit is transitioning from Cluster Autoscaler to Karpenter, marking a significant step towards operational excellence and cost-effectiveness. We will discuss how Karpenter’s features improved resource utilization, have reduced costs and streamlined operations.Additionally, we will highlight the enabling capabilities of ARM nodes within Karpenter, focusing on the advantages of utilizing ARM chipsets in our infrastructure. Our rollout strategy has ensured a seamless migration while maintaining the reliability essential for Connected Drive’s mission-critical services. This session will provide insights into the operational and financial benefits of Karpenter and ARM nodes, sharing our experiences, best practices, and the measurable impact on our infrastructure’s performance and sustainability.

AWS FinOps data and metrics are an invaluable source of architectural insights. In this talk, Željko will draw from his experiences to share a pragmatic, data-driven approach to understanding and improving an organization’s technology landscape. He will challenge the reliance on principles and subjective opinions, advocating instead for architectural decisions grounded in real, current data.

Željko will explore how organizations can tap into the wealth of information they already have—from source code and AWS cloud billing reports to incident tickets, financial metrics, and collaboration patterns. Rather than relying on expensive platforms, he will demonstrate how lightweight, open-source tools can transform this scattered data into actionable insights using simple, low-tech components.
